Hey there, I hope your week has been expanding your personal rhizome in the right direction!
I’ve been busy working on my “others” lately. My personal categorization of sh*t I don’t want to do daily, but may lead to a quasi-income-passivity in the future where I can be a bit more comfortable on the day-to-day.
In short, my “others” are chores.
Ones lined up for days/months/even years that I just never got around to. For whatever existential angsty reason or another, I started chipping away at these around a month ago.
And I gotta say—feels good man.
Thanks to this new approach to my “others,” I’ve been slowly getting more accustomed to a lackadaisical form of scheduling, something I had sworn off after leaving my last every-minute-of-the-day-was-planned career.
But of course, a rare few of us can truly live without some form of schedule in modern life, and so far, my new version of it seems to fit the main priorities of my life:
Productivity
Enjoyment
Laziness
So far, it’s fulfilling all three.
Pic Descrip:
That shiny restaurant is what’s known as a Teppanyaki, or 鐵板燒 (Tiě bǎn shāo) style restaurant where I live. Loosely/terribly translated into something like “iron board burn.”
I love these places.
They’re kind of like a cross between the Mongolian Grill back home and a lunch box place here. It’s a pretty simple concept. You sit down, mark off on a piece of paper what items you want, they ask you if you “want spicy” and they start cooking that deliciousness up in front of you on the heated flat top. To the side, you can often get unlimited broth, some basic drinks, and unlimited rice. Some places also give extra veggies (cabbage and bean sprouts) if you’re keen.
And all that for around $5-$6 USD, depending on what your main dish is.
Bam!
Needless to say, I hit that up after the gym 2-3 times a week. They have yet to let me cook it myself, though.
This is a free version of Pryor Thoughts, because they all are.
But just in case you want to help keep this newsletter running:
Some Cool Things This Week:
A town full of castles:
Ever want to live in Disneyland? The dream almost came to reality in a planned town in Turkey a few years ago.
From Wikipedia:
“The Burj Al Babas project involved the construction of 732 three-story luxury villas, all very similar to each other and characterised by elements of Gothic, English and American architecture.”
The project ended up failing after 5 years, with the developer going bankrupt when pre-sales slowed down, owing around $27 mil.
I couldn’t find a rights-free pic to share, so here’s the first post that popped up on Twitter:
Eerily cool.
A building full of organs:
There’s a museum in Holland that has the tagline “A journey through the human body.”
The entire setup of the museum is apparently as a slow path through each part of a human being, with the entire visit taking just under an hour. I’m guessing it’s meant for kids but would still be neat to see in person.
Especially just to see the half-encrusted giant built into the architecture:
For more info on it, here’s their website.
They also just announced a new exhibit:
“HURRAH! On March 14, Corpus celebrates its 14th anniversary! To celebrate, we have opened the Science Experience Planet Virus where you take a 'journey through science'.”
I’m not exactly sure if that’s tied into the whole human body thing, but if so, I can take a wild guess which planet will be featured over the exit. See the newsletter title for more clues.
A website full of paper:
My cool website find of the week—a website that makes it easy to create GIF’s from real-life paper.
For those of you who don’t know what a GIF is, it stands for “Graphics Interchange Format.” It’s those images online where they’re like short, soundless movie clips and animations.
For those of you who don’t know how to pronounce it, here’s the short scientific paper on the matter.
The website’s called Eat My Art (not sure why the cheeky name) and has a pretty simple process:
Print out their simple template
Draw your series of doodles
Take a pic of the paper and upload it to their site
They’ll then pop off a GIF to you to share/use/hang on your digital wall.
Neat.
That’s all for today, cheerios!

Your mind truly works in a different dimension from other people. I wonder if you, too, have come from Saturn, as the jazz musician Sun Ra claimed was his home. Never would I have imagined using "Rhizome" in the way you did. I'm constantly impressed by your 'out of the box' thinking. I don't think you even know where the box is, was, or will be.
I can't even imagine how stultifying your sojourn was when you were in the Corporate World. Now that your creativity has been freed, the world is a better place. Your writing "makes my day." Thank you, Mr. Eastwood.
A great post, JJ. Who knew there were so many cool things going on around us? As a Yo Sushi! fan I love the sound of Teppanyaki. Also, when the Millenium Dome in London (as it was formerly known, now the 02 centre) there was a giant body in there and in 2000 (I know, no wonder they changed the name) I walked through the body with my family and it was utterly amazing. As for living in a Disney castle, where do I sign?
