Hey there,
I’ve been obsessed with that picture above for weeks now. Simply because I’m not an artist (here are many many attempts as proof).
But the other reason is—I created that picture.
In 10 seconds.
And of course, by “I”, I mean I typed three words, chose a theme, and waited 10 seconds for a complex algorithm to spit out that somehow completely unique but amazing piece of art.
It’s this website/company called Wombo1, which has astoundingly little information available as to its sources and structure and if it may or may not be alien tech sent here by extreme art critics tired of today’s scene being smothered in egregiously overpriced bored apes.
***Fair warning, I spent probably 10 hours playing with that tool after coming across it. It is simply addictive (and fun!).***
Nevertheless, I’d suggest you go try it, they also have an app you can download called “Dream” that does the same thing.
How does it work?
I have only a vague idea as Wombo is still a pretty tight-lipped company. But it’s likely using one of the open-sourced AI art-generating platforms out there. If you’re active on Twitter, you’ve likely seen a bunch of waves of this kind of stuff.
From the admittedly little knowledge (for now!) I have on the subject, the AI is fed an insane amount of images with an insane amount of tags. The programming then deconstructs the objects into its own internal language. Then you pop in an AI writing interpreter, or something along those lines, and the AI reconstructs an image based on the prompts you give it.
For the image above, I chose something like “A dive bar in Taiwan.” Given my ample domain experience in that, I can tell you, it’s not too far off from some places I’ve seen.
Here’s another one for example, “Death drinking a beer in retro style”:
I made that my phone’s wallpaper for a while until I realized I was constantly thinking about beer, synthwave, and thirsty skeletons. Still pretty damn nifty.
Oh, and if you’re a blogger, you might be thinking “Hey, maybe I can use this tool to create unique header images for my article.”
And to that, I wonder if it’s legal in terms of ownership.
And to that, I answer “I have no friggin clue!” (If anyone does, please speak up!)
Anyway, I’ve been immersing myself in AI stuff for a while now and am finding myself more and more intrigued.
And scared.
And awestruck.
Which is all a pretty nifty combination, especially for one who deep dives into random topics. So, expect more to come!
But enough about me, what do you guys think of AI writing and art-generating tools?
PS. Happy Canada Day!

👇Click the heart thingy? The algorithm loves it. I love it more.👇
Although I did play with this website a few times earlier this year, terrifying dystopian art isn't for me -- I prefer humans or animals in my art. But I spent weeks completely obsessed with this AI portrait generator, artflow.ai, and I go back to it often.
That is amazing! I certainly will try out the website. I love art and have always wanted to learn graphic design but this seems to be easier than that. Thanks for sharing.
