I want to add something that I believe your analysis overlooked. It is a well-known truism in American politics - money is the mother's milk of politics. Looking at one election in isolation will give you a false impression of money's role in American politics. Politics is war without the guns - Mao Zedong. Any single election is only one battle in a long war. This is a lesson our Democrats have never learned. Money lets you buy low-level positions that eventually allow you to control an entire state. The Republicans are masters at the long game. I can go further if you are interested, but I think these few words are enough.
Perhaps the studies were more focused on the national level, I only used the 2020 election as it was the most recent when I wrote this one haha. Still, the data leaves me wondering if the money being spent is just to enrich certain industries while having far less effect than the donors think. It certainly wouldn't be the first time. I do fully agree with you though on the low-level positions being attacked, and I'm sure $ for $ in those areas has a far greater effect than say, the presidential race. Cheers Edward
It all drives me crazy!🤪
