Good column. My $69 runners have been just as good as their $189 counterparts. Better , in fact, as the expensive ones gave me plantar fasciitis. Just because it costa more doesn't make it better. Learned that lesson early in life and it serves me well.

One of my main shoes is actually purposely made to combat plantar fasciitis. Good thing is they really worked (or helped anyway). Bad thing is they're $100+ where I live haha. Which brand do you use?

The chemicals in some perfume can dull a person's sense of smell so they use enough to stink up the whole town. For people who can tell a toxic perfume from a non-toxic perfume (because the toxic perfume practically knocks them out) the smell of a nice, expensive, non-toxic perfume can be very welcome.

What do you mean by toxic? Now you have me worried - but it would explain my love life...

A toxic perfume would be one that the body sees as a poison and the body will be forced to use up its limited resources trying to get rid of these foreign chemicals. Anything that is in the air or on your skin is in your blood. Now the liver and all your good glutathione, and other valuable nutrients, have to use themselves up getting rid of the toxin (detoxifying). Meanwhile, before the body can get rid of these foreign particles, they will be influencing your nervous system and possibly making you less sharp or even kind of freaked out. Not all scented products are composed of toxic chemicals but perfumes are notorious for using them. And as a final point.... what the body can't get rid of it stores in your fat cells. As toxins from whatever source (air, food, water, etc.) sit there stored in the body they will still be irritating your sense of well being. There are solutions that require research and execution. One book is called "Detoxify or Die."

There are two very rich celebrities I admire. Shaq is one of them. The other is also involved in basketball. Both understand that selling a lot of something to a lot of nobodies is better than selling a few of something for a lot more to a few faux somebodies.

I'm sure their hundreds of millions help them have that perspective haha. But yea, I know what you mean, it's nice to see some humility among the stars.

Ah - just the other day I was bemoaning the cost of perfume. Dune by Christian Dior has been my favourite perfume for over 30 years and by damn it makes me wince when I buy it - usually from a duty free shop at an airport. Brilliant article as ever, JJ. Now, following on from this piece, when can we start to see those PB&T sandwiches out there? All they need is some superstar to endorse them and you’ll be minted. Keep me posted and when you make it big, don’t forget your friend here in England.

If i ever strike it semi-rich, the PB&T shop will surely come to fruition.
